auto-reply.to vs WhatsApp Business auto-replies
WhatsApp Business includes greeting and away messages: a fixed piece of text sent on a trigger. That’s useful for setting expectations, but it can’t answer a question. auto-reply.to writes an actual reply to what the person said.

Side by side
| WhatsApp Business auto-replies | auto-reply.to | |
|---|---|---|
| What gets sent | The same fixed message every time it triggers. | A reply written for that specific message, in your tone. |
| Answering a real question | Not possible — the text can’t adapt to what was asked. | Answers from your persona and knowledge base, and defers when it doesn’t know. |
| Account type | Requires a WhatsApp Business account. | Works with a regular personal account by linking like WhatsApp Web. |
| Scope control | Applies to your business inbox as configured. | Whitelist per chat; nothing is auto-replied unless you switched that chat on. |
| Finding leads | Not part of the feature. | Campaigns grade existing chats hot, warm, or cold and draft openers. |
| Cost | Included with the free WhatsApp Business app. | Paid subscription with a 7-day trial. |
Stick with WhatsApp Business auto-replies if…
- You only need to tell people your opening hours or that you’ll reply tomorrow.
- You want something free and already run a WhatsApp Business account.
- You’d rather no automated message ever attempts an actual answer.
Try auto-reply.to if…
- The questions you get need real answers — price, availability, scope, process.
- You’re on a personal number and don’t want to migrate to Business.
- You want the follow-up work too, not just an acknowledgement.
Related questions
Do I need a WhatsApp Business account or the Cloud API?
No. auto-reply.to works with your regular personal WhatsApp by linking the same way WhatsApp Web does — scan a QR and you’re in. No Business account, no Meta Cloud API, no Twilio, no developer setup of any kind. If you already have a Business account that’s fine too; auto-reply.to simply doesn’t require one.
Do I need to install an app or a browser extension?
No. auto-reply.to is web-only — sign in, scan the QR (just like WhatsApp Web), and you’re done. Nothing runs on your phone, nothing in your browser, nothing to keep open. Your assistant lives in the cloud and replies even when your devices are off.
Does auto-reply.to read all my messages?
No. auto-reply.to only fetches messages from chats you explicitly toggle on in the dashboard. Everything else in WhatsApp is invisible to us.
